  • I wrote because I believe in Zambia.
  • I wrote because those who claim to hold dear the rule of law, must act when the rule of law gets threatened by the acts of those who are entrusted to protect it.

  • I wrote to reiterate our country’s support for the men and women who serve as members of the Zambian judiciary. While there are several among them who might be corrupt, many magistrates, judges, clerks, general workers, and other officers are sacrificing daily to contribute to the good of the third arm of government. To uphold the integrity of this arm of government, I wrote the Chief Justice to follow the law and procedure when disciplining those who err among the ranks.
  • I wrote because an independent cadre of lawyers is indispensable to the rule of law. If our country is to develop its jurisprudence, lawyers must continue being independent of the state. A state controlled legal profession cannot adequately defend the people of Zambia. The management of the judiciary must not feel like they can suspend lawyers at will. Disciplining of lawyers must follow clearly laid down procedure. Lawyers and the judiciary are partners, but lawyers are independent of the judiciary.
  • I wrote because I believe that no matter the mistakes or shortcomings, there is still a chance for the Chief Justice to act reasonably and restore confidence in the people’s judiciary.

  1. Spot on as usual.

  2. I am not a lawyer but feel satisfied having read your letter.I was wondering how the migistrate could be suspended by referring the case to the constitutional court. this is the more reason why UPND has lost some confidence in our judicial system when the argued about the electoral results.. Once again thank you for the letter/mail Regards Joseph
